Is Success personal or social?

March 14, 2021

Success Collage

Success is such a personalized term and it’s marker differs from each and everyone according to their own threshold and barometer.

How do we distinguish someone from being successful and unsuccessful?

Is it based on their wealth or based on their knowledge or based on their network and connections or based on their health or based on the power of the office they hold?

If professional success and accomplishments are the forte to gauge someone, We have myriads of people who are successful professionally and socially, but are a personal debacle. What’s the point in achieving professional supremacy, when you don’t have people to celebrate your success as theirs behind you.

Can a person with a laundry list of educational certification be termed a learned person and successful?

If that’s the case, aren’t we familiar with umpteen number of people who are still ludicrous even after receiving Institutional accolades for their education. So, whose a wise man and considered knowledgeable even after centuries of Educational Institution’s existence.

We do have people who occupy the highest office in different regions who have led their respective states and nations to glory to insurmountable path and yet short lived, both in their office of power and life.

So what’s success? Is that a personal rhetoric or a social metric? Who decides or announces an individual’s success?

Looks so, its completely personal and the most customized format prevailing in our world for centuries together.

Even people denounced unsuccessful by the society and outside world, are still successful as long as they feel so in terms of their personal accomplishments and intellectual wealth and experience that they have gained over the course of their life journey.

Then, how are we attributing this extremely personalized success level of people to luck or hard work, without having an iota of idea on their journey and personal torments.

The sense of privilege some successful people seem to enjoy in our world (or perceived to be so), Is that a trophy to their suffering and struggle given by the society or cherry picked by the successful as a wanting during their struggle?

Why are some people from some specific geographical demographic and lineage able to achieve professional pinnacle?

Is it because of the resources and community available at their disposal or Is it the lackadaisical efforts of their counterparts?

Very few have the opportunity and fortune to have born in a place of privilege. Famous Author Malcolm Gladwell describes about this beautifully in his book Outliers. There is a theory called “The 10,000 — Hour Rule” which entails some of the historian thoughts and journey of some of the successful people.

To comprehend it, it’s the practice hours these successful people received within their respective domain and sectors, which enabled the path to their success. It also briefly describes their faculty to acquire these practice hours which led them down this path.

If that’s the case, shouldn’t everyone who are fortunate enough to acquire received wisdom and practice achieve professional potential.

But, even within this subset, it is the people who will their heart & soul to their passion and purpose make it through the nitty-gritty of life and come out on the other end with professional success.

Was it luck, that they had good fortune to begin with or Was it their luck, that they weren’t born of privilege, which forced them to succeed?

More so, this is mere perception and independent to their own vantage point. It all depends on what we term luck and hard work. There’s a thin line that distinguishes between Luck & Hard Work. You might be lucky enough to have born with nothing, which demands you to create a fortune for yourself and the people around you.

It might be true to a degree that LUCK merely infers “Labor under correct Knowledge”

Most of the successful people, often maybe because of humility or maybe because of the rough waters that they have treaded through, contribute a certain amount of their success to LUCK and other people.

We might be lucky enough to have such successful people amongst ourselves.

Let success be attributed to one’s individual will and wish, let it be left to their own imagination and prowess of SUCCESS!!
